Renewable Natural Resources and Socioeconomic Development in Africa: the Moderating Role of Financing

Abstract

Abstract: Africa has faced developmental constraints over the last decades. Solutions have been proposed to deal with such constraints. However, state actors often overlook the role Renewable resources play in development. Strategies proposed utilised renewable resource for development include promotion of environmental education, integration of environmental impact assessment into developmental projects, paradigm shift in developmental policies and least sustainability reporting. However financing is critical to developing Africa through renewable resources. And this can be done by implementing efficient taxation regime, Public Private Partnership initiatives, reducing capital flight and earning foreign exchange through exportation of goods and services. Renewable resource is critical but financial resources must compliment it. This essay discusses how both can play a role in African's development agenda.
